SlopBlock

SponsorBlock, but for AI slop. See which YouTube videos are AI-generated before you click them.

SlopBlock is a browser extension backed by a small public database. As you browse YouTube, the extension looks up every video on the page and puts a badge on its thumbnail and title. Videos known to be AI-generated get tinted so you can skip them.

Red: this video has been rated as AI slop.
Yellow: the video itself is unrated, but its channel mostly posts slop.
Green: rated as human-made, or uploaded before the AI-video era.
Grey: nothing is known yet.

How it works

  1. The extension sees a thumbnail and sends only the video ID to api.slopblock.co. It sends no account, browsing history or cookies.
  2. The API returns a slop score between 0 (human) and 1 (AI) and says where the verdict came from. A score above 0.5 counts as slop.
  3. If a video is new to SlopBlock, the API answers right away with “pending” and looks the video up on YouTube in the background. It learns the channel and upload date, so the next visitor gets a real answer.

Where verdicts come from

A video can have several evaluations. SlopBlock uses only the most trusted kind available and ignores the rest:

SourceMeaning
PREAIUploaded before 30 November 2022. Generative video tools did not exist yet, so the video cannot be AI slop. This outranks everything else.
adminA maintainer has confirmed the video is AI-generated.
communityRatings from users.
gptzeroAn automated AI-content detector.
otherAny other detector.
channelFallback: the average score of the channel’s other rated videos. Pre-AI uploads are left out of this average, so a long-running channel that switched to slop is still caught.

Scores combine pure-AI and partly-AI ratings. A “mixed” rating counts half.

Channels, via SponsorBlock

Channel-level verdicts only help if SlopBlock knows which channel each video belongs to. Every night the server imports the public SponsorBlock database dump, which links millions of videos to their channels and publish dates. A brand-new upload from a known slop channel is therefore flagged the moment it shows up in your feed, with no YouTube lookup needed.

API

The API is public and read-only. The base URL is https://api.slopblock.co.

GET /video/{video_id} # 11-character ID or a full YouTube URL
GET /channel/{channel_id} # UC… channel ID

→ {"slop_score": 0.92, "evaluation_source": "admin"}

slop_score is null when nothing is known. In that case evaluation_source is "pending" (lookup queued, try again shortly) or "none".
